What made me happy today is that while Notch is derping around with maps, Toady is completely rewriting the zombie code and is making huge steps into the territory of cities and sprawl. I love you Toady.

Also I went to Six Flags with our school band yesterday and had a great time, and got to snuggle up to the girl I love on the way back, along with being told I look cute in a fedora :3

...damn that misplaced modifier, but I don't know how to fix it. You all know what I mean.

Nice, I will be taking my gf to six flags in a couple of weeks and see if she wants to come with me to Utah for a couple of days and meet my family. I can pull off the fedora if i got my trench coat.

Just finished the Roadside Picnic, very nice, that is all :D

The thing that really got me was the tension and paranoia.  I've never felt so much of it from any other piece of literature.

It was incredibly atmospheric even though it lack very detailed descriptions, it is all very nicely conveyed trough the charcathers, and having read it i can only now see how both the movie and the games lack in atmosphere compared to the book.

Been hanging out with my sisters and their kids and my mom for Mother's Day. Been pretty entertaining. As usual, the kids have been bundles of craziness to deal with. Also took most of the day off from the computer, get some natural sunlight.

Haven't seen the movie (yet), but I think the games do a pretty good job capturing it, especially if you play some mods that make anomalies fully invisible or leave only very subtle clues of their presence... or even randomly placed.  Not to mention the goddamn bloodsuckers.  The thing I really think the game lacked was the rogueish culture.  Everything felt way too military/mercenary... but given the shift in setting and the needs of an action game, that's entirely acceptable to me.

The movie was a bit strange but followed the plot of the book at least.

Bah, I don't know how you could stand 'em.  I got through 50 pages of Atlas Shrugged and nearly threw it through the wall.

I guess I'll just have to try again this summer...

I got through it just to be able to tell my objectivist counterparts that I have read it, and it only served to convince me that Ayn Rand's brand of Objectivism is a philosophy used to justify sociopathy. Also, I read less self-masturbatory preaching sermons in the Book of Mormon and Christian Old Testament.

That's the thing, after you get some equipment things pretty much wind down to BOO!! effect horror and it becomes an ordinary shooter, what i would really want is the game retaining that pressure and horror of the Zone no matter how awesomely equipped you are, anomalies should stay somewhat rare, in certain places and become insanely deadly, the best suit protecting you once at most. Now this could make gameplay tedious with constant trips to repair your stuff, but it could be solved with a party system of sorts where you travel with your mates, find stuff, sell it each of you has some sort of skill beneficial to the team. Also guns should be toned down a lot, not the firepower itself but more their frequency so that finding a working weapon is quite an acomplishment.
But that would probably require a big change in the story of the Zone since military, mercenaries and bandits are very established by now, unless the sequel is actually the prequel in which case they can do some very neat stuff with the Zone itself aswell as with the people.

Also, one of the rare songs that make me smile like a dumb fool ^^
