Been busy patching up my computer, so I haven't had anything to say. Now I do, I can't believe the topic is still going.
I've played Chrono trigger, and believe it or not, on my old Mac used to be a PSX save/RAM file that had my progress recorded. I have all but the ending where you don't have Crono on your team (IE- Ending 2). That was all, and then I had to lend it to my sister. When I get that data back, I can finally have closure of having gotten all endings (silly in that regard, I know; but I also had a Chrono Cross save and saveram on there as well). I think Chrono Trigger was the first JRPG that I really got into and first beat, but before that, I got into FF6 and made it to the World of Ruin, but got too aggravated and didn't beat it until years ago. I'm a bit miffed at how close to the end I actually was when I first quit, looking back.
I recall watching my brother play and beat Shining Force, and since beating FFT, I want to see if I can apply some similar tactics to plow through that game. Then again, I don't think I would have the luxury of arithmaticians (calculators) and badass dancers and bards. I still can't believe I took on a high level random encounter with a lone dancer (pretty decent level, but outclassed by the enemies on site), and survived/won. There were quite a few yellow chocobos on their team as well, and they are damn hard to kill (frakking healing spells and teaming up like a package of peeps).
EDIT:
I agree with M0, FFT is by far one of the best. So much customizability. My PSP team is unmerciful. Grimbald has been the most badass mage I've had on my team since the beginning of the game, and even Agrias, I managed to start casting dark magic despite being a holy warrior. Real shame I have yet to come across anyone in town with that game as well to do some quests with. Alternatively, I can always get a PSP emulator, and try to Ad-Hoc it between them from there.
If you don't want to have fun, and just blaze through the game at ludicrous speeds, make a high faith (+85 preferred) calculator, teach them holy, and armor everyone with Chameleon robes (absorbs Holy; get the right class or ability mod to make them able to wear one). It doesn't matter who you hit; enemies die, and your guys live (or more like get healed by Holy instead).
Best bet: Calculate time (AP) divisible by 4. It almost always guarantees everyone gets hit at once. Be sure to have a snack or drink handy. This may take awhile. Great for a pinch as well.
Only way I can accelerate through the storyline or end a battle quickly and not lose everyone, but unfairly, and at the cost of XP/JP.
