Finally got around to playing Just Cause 2.  A lot of games talk about free-roaming action and sandbox worlds.  They can all put it away.

This is GTA meets ARMA meets Oni meets SimCopter meets 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.  I can't remember the last time I played an action game with such a huge grin plastered on my face.

Wait until you get to the, I think third, agency mission, you have to rescue a bloke from an installation, "aha!" I thought, "I'll use a helicopter to fly me and him away" *orders a heli, enters heli, flies up* *SMACK!* Artifical cieling all up in my helicopter

It's been ages, so that number is probably wildly off

I do love it when I can find time to stat out D&D monsters. Currently working on a horrible tentacle beast from beyond time composed entirely of shadowstuff. It is also abnormally tall and thin, with inhumanly long arms. Kind of a pity that modern suits don't make any kind of sense for the setting. Next, I need to work out the undead third of this hive mind. Probably a terror vampire, I'm thinking.

EDIT: Hahahahaha grapple +30 and the party's gonna be level 6 they are so fucking fucked. I should change that, maybe.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I did one better.  I bought that little microjet, which somehow costs less than a sniper rifle.  Except I ordered it on a slope, so it rolled off down the hill and into some trees during the cutscene.  I towed it back out with a truck and tried to take off, running me smack into the trees again.  Except I didn't let off the throttle, so the physics shits itself, and suddenly spits me into the air, doing about Mach 2 totally sideways up a mountainside.  I tried to steer and immediately crashed into it.

Holy shit this game is awesome.

Meanwhile: Demolition Man on G4.  I've never seen this movie.  It's like Denis Leary, as himself, wandered into filming of Judge Dredd.  Ooh, and commercial from a vampire movie with Patrick Stewart.

I'm more surprised you actually get G4 than that you haven't seen that movie yet.

G4 is a cesspool at times, so I can't blame him for not tuning in when it happens to be playing. I wonder if he has AMC though, it always has movies like this.

Today, when I was randomly going out to hike out to Agua Hedionda lagoon, there was a South Pacific Rattlesnake hiding under a bush near the building nearby. So, being bored, I watched it for a bit until this guy with a goatee drove over to finally remove it. The snake was rather intent on not leaving, and when being put in the tube he accidentally hurt himself somehow. After it randomly pissed on the guy, me, and a few other people in the vicinity as a defense mechanism, it hissed at us, rattled, and then the guy released it somewhere far down the hiking trail. It rattled at us again, hissed again, and then left.

I just gave an insect sweet, sweet death by way of blunt shoe trauma.

That's what it gets for thinking it can crawl across my floor unhindered.

As usual, I'm full of awesome RPG ideas when I'm least capable of actually putting them into game form.

I've been playing a lot of Global Agenda (I'm Squidblub, the bombercon).  The RPG idea came from the Recursives.  They were originally manufacturing robots programmed to build more manufacturing robots.  Hence the name Recursives.  As you can imagine, when the world ended they didn't.  They kept going, somehow supplementing their AI with advanced new functions, and have pretty much completely infested large parts of the planet.  They're like robot ants.  They form hives and swarm out to strip anything in the area of technology to build more robots.

That would make a cool campaign setting.  Not sure what system it would use, but it would still be a cool idea to have the players explore a post-apocalyptic wasteland that's been completely taken over by robots who only exist to consume and reproduce.

Sounds similar to many other replication machines I've seen in different series. LEXX comes to mind of a case gone terribly wrong. Drones (essentially floating arms) become such massive numbers, planets become countless drones in mere seconds.

I know there've been at least a couple RPG's which background ideas like this.  The GURPS Reign of Steel sourcebook being the first to come to mind, being basically a ripoff of the Terminator future, from like a year after Terminator 2.

And I'm right there with you on the having all these ideas I can never get around to doing anything with.  Maybe I should be doing that right now, instead of getting sucked into the gaming maw again.
