Finally continuing NGE. Angels are fuckin' weird, man.

That's not the worst of it. I think the High Octane Nightmare Fuel trope mentions that the angels in the show are based on the Old Testament descriptions of angels; and the cloak/robe + dove wings was to make it easier for us to comprehend them without absolutely losing it (or they were ancient aliens or something, and the clothing/wings were supposed to be symbolic of something far more advanced). Fridge Horror/Brilliance on my end in that regard is, if we're created in God's image, and he created those, then we must be awesome, yet pretty horrifying ourselves.

Great, now I'm tempted to go to the Humans are Awesome trope, and feel proud of how batshit insane(ly awesome) we humans are. That thought now made me happier.
