Be careful doing it with physicists, if they know how fast they're going they don't know where they are, and vice versa.

... I thought you were going into teaching English?  I'm talking about the physics students who say "Ah, well, you are entranced with the language of the universe--and us, with the literature," and then go prancing all over the place with their damned "Feynman integrals."

Geologists do it under the assumption that it's been done the same way and at the same rate since the beginning of time.

Pfft. At least geology is respectable. Linguistics is one step above lit theory and certainly not a real science.

Oh, I'm getting engaged to English teaching, yes. But my heart lies with my first love, with whom I had an affair almost a decade ago.
Come to think of it, I might've been that kind of a student, back then. Only without the prancing.

@Cthulhu - and psychologists don't do it, they want to talk about it.

Just went to a Christian Rock concert.

Star was Brian Welch (former guitarist of Korn) and held the only performance I liked.

I must say that I stopped headbanging each time the words "God", "Christ" or "Jesus" were said.

All in all, a good night.

Geologists do it under the assumption that it's been done the same way and at the same rate since the beginning of time.
They take great interest in occasional eruptions, as well.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

I'd say how computer programmers do it, but they don't.

Grammarians would do it but they're too busy analyzing minutia of position. Otherwise known as Sintax.

Sometimes they like to shake the house around a bit too.

Statisticians would do it but 73% of them are too busy making graphs.
