I always love explaining to people why, in any sensible Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 campaign, they should always carry at least one Tree Feather Token at all times. It's pretty much the ultimate multitool.

Folks, the Tree Feather Token does it all. Need a bridge? Just place it horizontally, say the command word! Boom, there ya go. Locked in a dungeon? No problem, just place your handy token in the lock and say the magic word! The door won't know what hit it. Trapped in the desert and need a fire? You know the drill. Being harassed by zombies? Just jam the token into the nearest weeping pustule and teach the Negative Energy Plane not to mess with Mother Nature.

EDIT: Need a little... extra persuasion? No problem, just slide the sucker on up the most convenient orifice, and let your test subject know what might happen if they don't talk. Maybe a demonstration, first? Call now and get 2 for the price of 1! Just the thing for that pesky saboteur!

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

With the exception of the bridge part, that could all be done with thermite. and most likely more awesomely.

I like getting in Fights. It means more phat lootz, and phat lootz are always welcome. Also I recently got my first LMG (Gave it to Steroid, because one-handed LMG shooting is brilliant. Also everyone else was sissy/sniper.), and want to test it on something that isn't a Bloodcat.

And yeah, offing the Kingpin will happen when I've figured out how to wire the entire building to blow. Because that will be awesome.

I don't know... Thermite would take quite a bit to set off in such a low tech world, and truely, what is more awsome, a pile of hot dust, or a tree springing out of no where?

Well, using the lock example:

With the tree, you're still blocked by the, you know, huge frakking tree that is where the door was. with thermite, you just melt the lock and be on your way.

On top of that, thermite gets you in quieter. easier to steal the wealthy guys' stuff.

Naw, you just do it at an angle. The tree is 5 feet in diameter only, so its cross section is probably only going to block the entire door in, say, a hobbit hole. In any case, you also do significant structural damage, which may open a way out. Might also cause a catastrophic collapse, though, I suppose.

EDIT: I should clarify that a major reason I defend them so strongly is because of that time I took off a werewolf's jaw with one when all other attempts to hurt it had failed. Had to lose a hand to pull it off, but it was so worth it. So, so worth it.
