This is where my opinions would go. Most particularly on the word 'indie'.


Nine, Chill, and stop dissing out on everyone's music. It's ok to call it 'techno'. That is the genre. The genre is not 'factory noise pump out techno trash'.
I like all music. Which is probably why it annoys me so much when people bitch about other music. I can't see it from more distinguished people's eyes. Or, ears.

I called my own music earcancer, I call myself a fag, I call good music for crap, I listen to electronics and technically the genre Ein posted weren't techno, it's hardcore, which I have listened to, even so I don't have a lot of respect for it and can't really accept it being compared to something taking as much skill as a symphony. :b

Finally got around to trying Dragon Age: Origins. Bioware did a great job with the game; it's one of the first RPGs I've seen in which the dialogue options are all sensible and tempting in their own ways, and the conversations feel organic.

I rolled a Female Dwarf Noble Rogue, with political leanings and a Barbra Streisand nose. The origin story for her was great; all sorts of wonderful court intrigue, bravado and betrayal, and so on. It was also neat how it sets up preexisting relationships depending on your first few dialogue choices; I was friendly to my royal aide, and it set things up so that they had been close friends and unrequited lovers for a long time... and though I'd heard enough about the game to fear that the relationship thing was just a poor excuse to throw porn into a game, the story there actually ended up being really sweet, and sad.

Spoiler: Even on low graphics, the game is extremely pretty. (click to show/hide)

I hate the term indie. It's so vague. It doesn't specify a genre, unless it does, it specifies an attitude. Or it doesn't and it just specifies what kind of label you are signed to, or were signed to, or want to be signed to.

Unfortunately, it's still pretty unlikely.
Top 40 is less talent and more certain connections.

Apparently his last album, released posthumously, reached #19. None of his other albums broke through though.

Right. So you don't have any respect for yourself and your own music, so that makes it ok.
On that point, There's two things you need to know. One, a single lead guitarist in a good band would practice harder and play faster/better than a single violinist in a good concert symphony. It's the amount of instruments used together which makes that music good, as they can overlap rhythms and bring in certain instruments at crescendos.
Second, screaming is harder than singing. While I wouldn't try to learn it myself, and the majority of people hear it as an unattractive sound, the truth is that it takes a lot more in the way of lessons and practice to get right.

So, while you don't have to like that type of music, you could do worse than respect it.

You assume way to much, while it's true I don't respect myself, I am actually practicing what you call "Screaming" in a variant i've technically called a screech, I grew up with both pop, metal and rap and I listen to folk music the most.

And what does guitar playing have to do with mixing sounds you don't own through a computer program and then claim your a musician?

I have always been of the school of thought that says arranging sounds into music by mixing them with a computer isn't fundamentally different from arranging sounds into music by creating them with an instrument.
