So since I'm a huge fucking dork (and write 1-2 large essays a week), I made an essay calculator in Excel a while back. It pretty much takes the expected word count, breaks it down by the hour based on whenever I start it and whenever it's due, and figures out about where I should be at any given time in that period. All pretty simple.

Anyhow, I've always been a big believer that making a good essay structure is 2/3 or 3/4 of the work put into an essay, and I'm proving myself right. Two days making sure my structure was solid and my arguments were clear and strong. At about 10am this morning I 'officially' started it (it's due 4pm tomorrow, this essay in particular being a long one), and didn't really get around to start working on it due to class, etc. at around 7:30 pm. According to my calculator, I should've been about 1/3 through the essay (a rather long and important one this time), and I'd written nothing of the actually essay itself, only notes. An hour and a half later, at 8:45, I've got over half of the essay written, and I feel pretty good about its strength. Hypothetically, if I keep working at this pace, I'll be done before I even start to get tired, and I'd expected to pull an all-nighter and finish this thing within an hour of the deadline.

Fuck yeah. When a system you make works right, can't help but feel good about it.
