What.

How long has this been going on?!

I dunno, it seems to help some people. For example, at a rather large invitational, I was finishing the race when I hear a coach from another team start yelling, "SCREAM FOR POWER, JOHN! SCREAM FOR POWER!". All of a sudden, a gigantic (loud) seven foot tall behemoth of a cross country runner pulls ahead of me and around a dozen other people, screaming at the top of his lungs, only to collapse at the finish line, presumably from lack of air after screaming for thirty seconds straight.

Funny what adrenaline does to some people.

There's a reason some martial artists yell out when they strike. The reason they cry "Kiai" is to strengthen the Tanden (in your gut, 3 fingers above the navel), where a person's Ki is supposedly located. From a biological standpoint, this tenses your diaphragm, which in turn stabilizes your core muscles, allowing your limbs to exert more strength against them. Of course, the trade-off is you're burning extra energy and oxygen when you yell continuously... but you can exert more force, and it makes  a great way to strike fear into the hearts of your opponents!

SCIENCE!

I hadn't thought about the effect on the core muscles. However, I'd think that an extended period of time spent clenching the Tanden would cause some major cramps.

On the fear component, I must admit, the screaming was pretty terrifying. Usually cross country races are dead silent, except for the cheering from the spectators, but there are large gaps between them in most smaller races. Having a guy three feet away from you roar like a foghorn for thirty seconds is disconcerting, to say the least.

Nah, it doesn't.  If you do it for hours you'll get hoarse and your diaphragm might ache for a day or two, but other than that it actually makes everything a heck of a lot easier.  I know I got significant speed boosts, to the point that when I was doing kendo my training partner couldn't hit me when I left myself open.

What.

How long has this been going on?!

For a while now... At first, it was just physical, he needed me to do the things that you couldn't. It wasn't your fault, you just don't have the... touch that only I could provide.

But, we've gotten more serious. We're in love.

I'm sorry Realmfighter.

Now, not even stealing my steam account will get him back.

Make sure you take really, really deep breaths--quickly, too.  Otherwise, you may have serious problems with light-headedness.

Don't worry, I have some crazy lungs. Playing the Euphonium for seven years and running a lot help with that.

I have a combination Kiai/Metal Scream. It's fun. I will verify that the sudden intake of oxygen/release of adrenaline will do wonders for your muscles.

You should try to hyperventilate slightly to saturate your blood with oxygen, and then see how long you can hold your breath for. After a few years of music, diving, and a bit of running, I can push 3.5 minutes on a good breath... and I wager you could probably show me up.

I'm happy that my Tablet is all properly calibrated now. That means I can start doing proper Art Lessons with my buddy in Seattle again! Huzzah!

On a doodling-related tangent:
Spoiler: Freakin' <3's (click to show/hide)

I'm a bit frustrated by this <3. It's inconvenient, meddlesome, and slightly illogical. I don't think it's something I need at the moment, nor does it make a terribly great deal of sense... and yet, it still makes me happy. Methinks I'm going to have to keep this one entirely on the back-burner, and spend some time making heads/tails of it. The last thing I need right now is something to wistfully sigh about.

...I think I'm going to go study for midterms or something.

Well, I got a 90/100 on my history essay.  That sure made me happy!  Even if the class average was 85, my prof grades on an absolute scale with 85-100 as an A.  Can you say grade inflation? :P

I just finished a math test an hour before class was over. Judging by the stares I got when I turned it in, I was well ahead of everyone else in the class. I had to resist the urge to yell "LOL First!!!"

Curse you, internets.

All that aside, being that far ahead makes me a little anxious that I screwed up the test. Can't worry about it too much, though.

Are you X-Country team mates allowed to simultaneously sing or yell songs to provide awkwardness and/or intimidation?
