This script scares me, it creates a file with a size of 2(N^2) megabytes compressed to less than a 100th of it's original size. I gave it N=8 (128 megabytes) and it returned a compressed file no bigger than 500kb.
I wonder what'd happen if I let N=32. :-P

Hmm... should have a payload of 2GB...

>:D try it

If it's big enough? Your computer crashes.

The file size explodes, hyperexponentialy. Give it a number over 32 and it'll probably eat your ram like it's a cupcake (Assuming it expand into the ram. Else you could always try a bigger number and watch it eat your hard disk). It's like a fork bomb but only for memory.

Damn now I'm wondering if it's possible to write a program that fills the entire stack up precisely, causing anything trying to write to the stack to crash...

Zip bombs keep an antivirus/email filter busy (allowing you to drop send stuff over that would usually be removed/filtered out), mess up your ram, etc. There's a zip file out there called 42.zip, it's 42 kbs that expand to about 42 petabytes (1,000,000gbs I think). Anyway, running the script with N=32, lets see what happens.

2 GB should be processable, assuming you've got 4 GB of ram. Enjoy your 2 GB of useless data :P
