Woah.

Although it's weird... I sortof mentally assumed they were modern since I automatically associate anything in colour with being at most 70 or so years old.

My friend introduced me to a set of photographs taken of the Russian countryside. They're fantastic photos, but that's not all that's cool about them.

These were taken roughly 100 years ago, by a special camera using 3 colored filters and separate film negatives. They are some of the oldest color photographs in existence, but they've never been able to be viewed this way until recently, using digital technology. Freaking amazing stuff.
So, there were power lines in Russia 100 years ago? 2nd pic, top.
Sorry, but calling bullshit. All of these could've been done today.

EDIT: Never mind, found 'em.   Huh.

There are wires stretched above the village there. However, you can do some research here if you don't believe it: http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/empire/ (That or take it up with the Library of Congress, who cited the dates. :P)

They had electricity in 1910... it's been around since the late 1800's. In this case, they had generators like these.

EDIT: They may also be Telegraph lines. For historical reference, these were taken just prior to World War I, and the destruction of a great many of the monuments and villages photographed here.

I wonder if there's any Scribblenauts/Death Note crossover fic? It'd make sense...

I dunno, you guys have survived Thomas the tank engine, golems, zombies, nuclear explosions, laser whales, and being on the same team as ragnarock.  I don't think something as tame as a world ending rain of lava will even slow you guys down.

I don't know. 8 parallel telegraph lines over some random backwater village? Perhaps that picture got there by mistake.
Anyway, no matter.

I have to agree that lines like that are pretty out of place, especially considering where it is, but who knows.  Maybe it's just an artifact.

My Jazz Band teacher really likes a band called Passion Pit, and he is apparently turning This into a song for us to play.

Or something.

I love Passion Pit! :D

Light and Dark: The Adventures of Dark Yagami isn't one, but it's got an Everything Note in, which is basically the same thing.

Why do I keep reading this kindof stuff

In the settlement of Viazovaia, along the Trans-Siberian mainline in the Ural Mountain region, wooden storage facilities for hay and food crops are photographed against the background of a dense pine forest.

Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii.
A Method for Storing Hay, 1910.

Apparently the photograph in question was taken in a settlement along the Trans-Siberian Railroad, the main line of transit across Russia, thus that is actually the most likely place to find telegraph or power lines. You'll find that most long-distance wiring follows railways, since the ground has to be deforested, trimmed back, and made semi-level. It's also usually the most direct overland route between large settlements.

Also, don't forget that this was immediately prior to WWI, and to the Russian Revolution that ended Tsarist rule.

I'm currently mauling my fantasy football league this week (of course, run by my brother), despite having a 0-2-0 W/L/T. Could've done even better had I played the Jets instead of the Patriots for my defense however. Easily quadruple my defense score. No matter, I should breach the triple digits anyhow even without an optimal lineup (though opt would've been close to 150 pts. with my league's rules. Oh well, I finally win a week so far.

Furthermore, I may be addicted to Minecraft. I just made my starting mine a mini-home with a functional garden and everything, decorated with a temple, and a farm up top. And I nearly cleared out a whole mountainside to improve security, mine for stone/ore, and make pinning any mobs easier to pick off from a safer spot with an escape route. So far, everything's working out well enough, I crafted a few boxes of TNT. Seeing as I feel safer at Starter, and am gathering some surplus materials, I should be able to handle Greater no problem, with a side-project of a lighthouse (initially torches, but should soon be replaced with magma).

EDIT:
Considering I already increased my score by half of what was predicted, and pretty much won for the week, I think I'm going to be given the "biggest surprise" award for the week. I didn't expect to win as well as I did this week.

Oh, and here's some pics of my Minecraft game:
Spoiler: Waking up (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Main Hall (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Front Door (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Farm/garden (click to show/hide)

UPDATE:
Fantasy team breached 100 pts. YAY! C'mon Jets, net me some more points. (Actually, seeing as I don't have the team assigned , I'm rooting for Ricky Williams to get me more than the 1 point that made me breach 100.)
UPDATE:
9 MORE POINTS!!!

Just bragging from now on. NFL Fantasy Football score for the week so far:
Me: 110pts. ;D (Optimum: 130pts.)
My opponent: 74pts. (Optimum: 86pts.)

I win with a 34 point lead ahead the 2nd highest rank. Could've been 54 points had I assigned the right guys.

Oh, and I take back what I said about the Jets defense. Looks like the score dropped to -1 what I assigned scored.
(and I take THAT back. Now they're +2 from my assigned DEF. >:()
