I always read "not as" to mean "less than" and I'm pretty sure that's correct. "not as" is more restrictive than simply "not."

I taught someone some valuable cat-fu today.

A cat does not scratch you, you scratch yourself on a cat. If a cat claws at you, hold still, do not retract. With a few exceptions (yeah there's asshole cats but they have been mistreated to become that way), cats will claw at you either to play or to warn you and no harm will be done when you hold still. If it's play it might grab your hand and try to bite it. Hold still. Play bites are gentle. Except when small kittens are doing it, their sharp pointly little teeth lack dulling down and control they might pierce skin.

Also, freaking glorious news. My boss just had an op to get colon cancer removed. Then the pathology guys said "oops we removed healthy tissue. Can't see the cancer." Surgeon was freaking the hell out like "jesus christ how did I fuck that up this badly," my boss who is also a medical doctor was feeling just shattered that not only had healthy colon been removed, but he had lost valuable time in which the tumour could permeate the submucosal membranes (and risk becoming untreatable, end stage). Pathology guys re-reviewed 120 block slides and came back to them both "ah nvm turns out we did get the tumour"
