Got to see a few Perseids, and it made me realise it's been far too long since I just stargazed. It's damn pretty up there.

Appointment for my proper* dental x-ray has come through, so I might be getting my remaining problematic wisdom tooth out soon. Getting the pressure taken off the one on the far side of the mouth did wonders for me, so I'm looking forward to getting this one sorted.


*My dentist wants me to get my wisdom tooth taken out by the NHS in a proper surgery, possibly with full anaesthesia, rather than try to remove it with local anaesthesia in the dental practice, but that means I needed referred for NHS x-rays rather than just my normal dental ones, so it could be looked at.

Heh, when the navy took mine they did so out of policy rather than any problem, and it took them 4 shots of novacane and 2 shattered teeth to get it done.

Looks like the horrible place that is Telegram will be a thing of the past soon. France arrested it's founder and is going to put him away for enabling child abuse, child pornography and drug trafficking. They want to arrest his brother too.

I hope Instagram is next, they need to shut that down for death through neglicence, death through encouragment and encouraging extreme bodily abuse. (Im talkin to you, skinny influencers, self proclaimed helpers and anorexia fangroups)

He seems to current be out on bail, actually? Also look like 10 years max, assuming he's actually indicted for anything and the charges stick... from the look of things several of the charges are kinda' sketchy, and reporting seems to be having a bit of trouble wrapping its head around exactly where the case is in regards to frances legal system, heh.

It's pretty doubtful it's going to do basically anything to telegram itself, though. It's one of the largest messaging services on the planet, not based in france, and france doesn't want it gone to begin with, they want it spying for them. They can't really do much to it outside of stuff like attempt to intimidate a CEO into compliance, far as I'm aware.

He is freed on bail on restrictive terms. He has been formally charged today.

If Telegram does not change it's content all it needs is a single person to file criminal charges against it as a platform for child pornography and drug trafficking. A judge can then ban it, regardless of what the French state wants. France has Trias Politica.

... I mean, they might be able to ban it in france. Maybe? Doubtful, but maybe.

Telegram losing access to france is not going to meaningfully effect the platform. Their monthly user count is about fourteen times france's entire population. It's about twice the size of the entire bloody EU, if a ban somehow managed to go across the union. Telegram's pretty literally bigger than france, heh.

S'mostly just an "adjust the expectations" thing. France isn't going to be able to do much of anything to telegram at the end of the day, and the platform's not going anywhere due to anything france does. It's real unlikely it goes anywhere due to what's happening to a CEO.

Anyway, been two days so bump for actual happy: Outside mostly-black cat I've been trying to convince to stop running away let me pet it for the first time today!

Bit more of this and then I can catch it and have it neutered :V

... then see if it can integrate with my inside cat. Inside cat is basically unsocialized around other cats and a wee titch aggressive around them, so, uh, it should be interesting!

Hopefully not too bloody. Outside cat is probably more experienced in fighting and whatnot but inside cat is like half again its weight and notably healthier and ornerier , so, uh...

Helped rescue several hundred tadpoles from an old freezer that was filled water that's quickly drying out in the heat, gonna have to go and look at it again tomorrow to see if there are any left, not sure why there were so many living in that thing but it didn't seem right to let them die in there.
