I mostly end up just PMing people through the forums. Though I have dabbled in some discord stuff for DF most of my discord experience is with other communities.

I keep wanting to PM folk and then overthinking it and not sending them. Cause I'm good at the social interaction thing. >_>

edit: also yeah I spent so long trying to compose that msg that I forgot about the previous one. Uhm. That'd be cool. You're gonna smash those finals tho.

I've been DM'ing a 5e game for a few months now.

One of my PC's literally cried when a friendly NPC died.

Makes me feel like a good DM.

Listening to tac-com from my friends desperately fighting a 5-realtime-day war while my AI-controlled empire supports them with economy and fleets, is just a good feel.

I built a good foundation, the AI is using it.  I've had to jump in a couple times when my empire's AI did a stupid, but I addressed the triggers which caused that.

There's something warming about building something which, now, outlives my involvement.

My main social Discord has a bunch of people from Bay12. The forum game server also doubles as a general Bay12 server I think. That's the only B12 communities I'm in. My Discord is KittyTac#4448 if anyone wants to DM.

I think that IRC channel technically still exists, but everybody's migrated to Discord, with the IRC just having one channel of the discord server being mirrored onto the IRC side and back.
