Finally going about getting my state pistol permit.  I figure that it is only going to get harder to get a permit and a reasonable supply of ammo/gun/practice in in the future, so I had to jump.  Especially since I work so much I cant really fit in a hobby right now.

But a hobby would be nice.  I just yesterday found out that the payroll lady got a master's in engineering, is a 6th degree master in karate(or something similar), does henna, bakes for state fair contests, and designed the whole payroll system she administers.  I feel very small by comparison.

Stay away from 9mm because you can't find any ammo these days.

(edit: Should have said *practice* ammo. You can still find $$$expensive personal defence ammo.  But my advice would be .45 cal.)

Ah shit my brother was just talking about this the other day. Some manufacturer is making what is basically a Glock/is compatible with Glock parts, and features an interchangeable barrel(s), you can get it in both 9mm and 10mm. Taurus or something it was called. It's a recent release, $300 or something you can order it online and pick it up from your local firearms dealer.

I should get something to practice with too, I'm probably way rusty

You can get most rifle ammo, but not .223cal / 5.56mm which is hard to find.
I just started reloading my own ammo, but even doing that you can't find primers to load 9mm or .223/5.56.
So far I'm just starting with .30-06 which is easy to get.

Yeah, and .30-06 will as a bonus stop anything. Moose, bears, bison, crazy right wing militias with there pitiful 5.56mm Armalite rifles and commercial body armor, small vehicles...

I've been thinking about reloading my own ammo, I probably should start looking into it more seriously as 7.62x54R is hard to find in my area and I was lucky to get the 60 I have.

I've got a book that talks about how to reprime primers, if people want me to write down what it says I can.
