Not as good as I wanted

I got a rejection e-mail from a company I applied to.

I got this rejection e-mail the day after I sent in the application.

My first thought was "wow, I wish other companies were so punctual". Yeah, it's a little perfunctory, but at least it's, like, not leaving me hanging for 4 months, as some places have.

The thing that always floors me about HR departments:

"We want more experience for the task than is even actually possible, for a vanishingly small amount of remuneration for what that experience costs to obtain, and we want the ability to terminate your employment without any justification at any time.  Further, if, for any reason at all, we just don't like you-- we will make up silly stories about your "not fitting" with our company.  We think this is perfectly fair, and reasonable."



And yet, there are droves of people willing to jump in line to die on that hill, to enshrine that position for them. "It's their company, they can define whatever rules they want!" et al.

This does not belong in the happy thread, but damn.  I am real sick of seeing this in the world.  I would dearly love to see some screws get turned, and turned tight on these abuses.

Just saying, I left my prior-to-last job because of that. See, it's a bit annoying when you're rated first for nonpermanent jobs (to the extreme of making those nonperm pseudopermanent) but are not even considered the very minute the perm post comes up and they have one of their bffs to place.

The red right hand is a reference to Paradise Lost by John Milton (he said without checking)

I didn't remember that being in Paradise Lost, but apparently it is, and refers to the wrath of God, not Lucifer.
Clearly, Satan just works in mysterious ways.

Well that just adds to the whole "is he singing about God or Satan" vibe I've always gotten from the song

Of course, there's also merit to the idea that Lucifer is not in opposition to God, but that he is in fact the punisher in God's service

I think that's actually the view the OT holds. "Ha satan," the accuser - as in a prosecutor. For example, this is how he acts in the Book of Job.

Lucifer actually refers to Venus, the "morning star." The verses in the OT referring to Lucifer or the morning star are actually talking about the king of Babylon (see Isaiah 14.) Christian tradition incorrectly identifies this reference with Satan.
