I checked, installing an SSD into the (initially empty) 2.5" drive bay won't void the warranty. Hell, they (the manufacturers of the laptop) even supply the necessary cable and screws in the box to install a 2.5" drive, pretty much confirming that you're supposed to install it yourself.

BTW: in cool new MicroProse is being reformed, with one of the co-founders (not Sid Meier, the other one) on as a consultant. Seems like they're focusing on publishing simulation, strategy and turn-based tactics games at the moment, and they're talking about reboots of their back catalogue for new systems. It's good to see then aware of what they should be doing with the company, which is simulation and turn-based stuff.
