Didja thank the DMV peeps for working during the shutdown? DMV life is pretty shitty on a normal day, not getting paid for the ordeal makes it break the speed limit of shit.

When they say they aren't paying people, that means they're not working. This is the reason government websites in the USA are going offline: no techs are at work to renew the TLS certificates. That's how bad it's getting. When government websites are going offline since you laid off the IT staff that are supposed to maintain them, you know those places really are completely shut down and not just running without pay.

Not quite true, as it depends on which class of employee you are.  Most employees, referred to as non-excepted, are indeed furloughed.  However, excepted employees (usually referred to unofficially by the original term "essential") are required to work even without pay, as their positions are required either for safety of people, safety of property, or essential to agency processes.  While traditionally such employees will receive backpay after government functions are restored, there's been some concern which I rather hope is unwarranted that no such compromise may be found this time.  Air traffic controllers, military personnel, TSA, and border patrol are all exampleps of personnel considered essential, and even when they say they are not paying people right now, it does not mean at all that they're not working.  It just means they're working for nothing more than a promise of pay.

Or, you know, mysteriously calling in sick due to missing-paycheck-itis.

Unrelated Spider-Man trailer hype.

And as much as I'm looking forward to this one, it's kinda wierd looking at this after the Endgame trailer since there spidey is still rather dead. Like, we all know they'd be bringing the majority of the dead folks back and all, but this is a bit on the nose tbh, they could've waited after that one to maybe premier the trailers (tho, to be fair this comes out like a month or so after avengers, but still)

Surely no one is surprised by this. Comic books have been bringing characters back to life for decades, and now comic book movies are ludicrous money makers. The events of Infinity War are utterly meaningless because any and all dead characters can be revived at any time, for any reason.

Logan has my grudging respect because A) it was well done, and B) Hugh Jackman seems to have given up the role for good, but I never once imagined that Marvel would stop making Spider-Man movies just because they killed him off once.

It's more of an in-universe problem. When Spider Man got dusted it was an oh no how awful emotional moment oh nooo how sad and they are definitely going to start up Endgame with everyone still being sad and now it's like whatever Iron Man, they're just going to bring everyone back in 1.5 hours, get over it.

Yup, but that still leaves Loki, Gamorra and Vision as dead since they all checked out earlier, and tho yes they did get checked out by Thanos it wasn't via the finger snapping specifically which is what they'll prolly end up reverting.

And that's fine, it's been over a decade of this stuff, a proper death or two won't hurt (tho it's kinda meh that they waited 'till the last goddamn movie to do so but eh)
