In happier news, pathfinder: kingmaker is out and it is fun, but doesn't have it's own thread to discuss it. I am playing a Kagus Scion and kicking butt. It uses Obdidian's pillar of eternity engine but somehow feels less clunky (despite some questionable UI choices).

Recognition that aging is a disease and not something to be treated as a normal or even necessary part of life has been spreading bit by bit, myself I have begun working down a career path which isn't really a "9 to 5 for 30 years then retire" type of thing and will probably be doing this until I keel over or get uploaded into some vr happyland because my last appeals on the use of my matter got overruled and Our A.I. God needed more computronium.

Yeah, all those damned sexy kids tempting good upstanding churchdudes (forgot what the general term besides priest/bishop is, I think pastor is more of a protestant thing?) into diddling them... I mean, I don't think the bible specifically says thou shalt not fondle six year olds... but maybe the catholic version is different from the one I read, or it was hidden in one of those chapters with all the "begats" cause that shit goes boring as fuck fast.

No, because it does not contribute to all future generations. When you choose not to have children the welfare state does not loose just your children, but your grandchildren, and grandchildren, and so on forever. No accomplishment or contribution you could ever net for your society can ever stand up to the infinite possible contributions of your offspring.

Providing for older generations actual has tangible immediate value by showing current young workers that they too will be provided for.  The problem with a Logan's Run sort of situation is that people lose a lot of motivation, even long before they approach the cutoff.

We're currently in a situation where the population is skewing older, which stresses the economy, but doesn't fundamentally change the contract.
