It actually stands for Disproportionate DLC. It's a game in which there is no game unless you constantly buy DLC.

... EDIT however if it's a dating sim VN then you'd need to explain why that one and not all the other existing dating sim VNs? There are tons of them.

All anime is porn, you can't fool me.

Haha, but DDLC is western fakeanime I see :P

Personally I'd play Clannad or Higurashi rather than that.

Is it anything more than just a "click through the story 'til the naked bits"?

Yes.

I've seen no indication that there's naked bits.

Am sort of kind of figuring out how to art. Nothing I'm making actually looks good, but it's decent enough that there might actually be some hope.

There are no naked bits. It's a horror VN. It's very good. Here's a discord server, liveblog it if you play it, ask where in there I'm not sure about where.

Looked on steam, hadn't realized the game was free from the discussion here. The tiny little banner it had from steam's mainpage looked quite cheery, and was directly above the "psychological horror" tag, so that's certainly promising. Think I'll play it at some opportunity, with friends in case it's terrible, because having friends around makes terrible things good.

I would recommend playing with friends regardless.

VNs certainly I'd expect to be better in nearly every case with someone watching.

I'm hindsightedly surprised VNs in that 90's filmed-not-animated style of graphics isn't more common.

Naked bits kind of VNs, that is.

I got Nekopara in a Humble Bundle and I can confirm that it's one of those types of VNs.  The characters use a weird hybrid of 3D and 2D animation however (body and faces are 3D, arms/hands are somehow 2D). It's weird. But that and games like Wolf Girl With You (extremely NFSW but amazing animation) use cutting-edge animation techniques to do cell-shaded 3D rendered to an anime-style, with character rendering which actually looks better than many anime TV shows. The western VNs are basically 5-10 years behind the type of animation they are doing now.

That shit like HuniePop (western wannabe dating sim/candycrush) looks like dogs balls compared to Nekopara. Current-gen VN tech in Japan is way past still cut-outs now. It might end up as a thing where Japan's completely moved on, but half the Western games are made in a "classic VN style" of "animation".

Nekopara is def. not for kids however:

Knight and Magic, for all that it has a stupid name and a really dumb looking protagonist, is surprisingly fun.

You'd think a real-world insert a la Conneticut Yankee under a lesser author would result in stupid shit, but the guy is hilariously one-minded about the local giant robots, and the whole damn thing is basically "You know generic anime tropes? Fuck that, GIANT ROBOT FIGHTS AND SCIENCE!"

It even gets the issues with prototypes in, along with the best way of defeating the giant monsters being to disable their anti square-cube law magics!

I am greatly amused.

Well, "disable te anti-square cube law magics" was just "electrocute it in the eyeball".
And his nakama protagteam is as shounen as it gets.

But I will definitely give points for the kid who doesn't gaf and just wants to fight robots.

It gets much more NSFW than that (presumably, at least, given that the Steam version just fades-to-black), but yeah, can confirm that the tech used in Nekopara is remarkable.

That said, Huniepop's not all bad...
