NASA's visualizer has a mode where you can see the eclipse from the moon's POV, which turns a relatively benign astronomical phenomenon into a Moon-based darkness ray. Which is pretty badass.

Mind you, they're harmless, just somewhat awkward to be around. Bloody things are the ceiling cats of the interdimensional sea.

Finished reading Watchmen for the first time ever. I really, really liked it. It was a good birthday present.

Oh yeah. I'm a day late, but birthday. Mine was yesterday. KOSSMAS!

I have returned at last from the storm wheat fields and sunken graves of South Carolina, anointed now by starstuff.

Congrats on another trip around the sun, KosS!

Kinda-sorta saw the eclipse today. I'm too far north for a total eclipse, but the partial eclipse was still a bit unsettling--seeing the sun covered up so much (through a pair of polarized sunglasses and a welding mask, mind) was pretty weird, and around the time my area got closest to totality the world was visibly darkened, as if a great monitor had been dimmed a few notches.

I feel bad for any firebenders out there today.

First contact in SC. Sunbro is now a dented Fanta can.
HEYO :D
Well actually, we went on into Georgia, and then juuust barely into good old NC.  Really nice town - the school was renting out its bleachers, and also selling a small collection of eclipse shades...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Went for a nice 3 mile hike with mom, we found a nice quiet spot in the woods with some convenient logs to sit on, and clear patches.  We could just barely hear a crowd along the lake shore as they cheered in excitement.

I had brought a shoebox, fashioned a super-lazy pinhole camera with a screwdriver-  Actually worked, kinda!
But the eclipse shades blew my mind.  I'm holding on to mind so I can simulate the liberation of night just look at the most impossibly round, inconceivably large circle I've ever seen.

I couldn't hep stealing a glance at the totality...  It couldn't be any worse than glancing at the naked sun, right?
........
It's like seeing a monster reflected in your shield, and not turning to look because it's a gorgon.
It was absurdly creepy in person.
I glanced two more times, with breaks.  It was one of the "wrongest" things I've seen outside a dream, and beautiful.

I saw it.

Invictus.
For those 2 minutes vampires walked the land, and I was a werewolf for some reason?  NWoD is confusing.

I'm not sure how to tell you this, but you can look during totality without protection. It's only before and after that you need eclipse shades.

I'm pretty sure I didn't even blink when it was happening.

...Pffffffff, I'm not even mad, stealing 3 brief glances instead of a long look made it even creepier.  Maybe.  It was also cool observing the "moonlit" forest.

also helps that there's another one in 2024, just harder to get to

But I'm... slightly disappointed... that all those strident warnings were actually "don't look at the sun when it's still a painful burning deathball".  It's not like it was comfortable to look at, even as a sliver.
I also feel stupid but that's unrelated B:
I'm not even going to inform my mom about this until we're about to watch in 2024.  I will record her reaction.
