I feel I should share this, for the purposes of mutual amusement with the Russians here.

A week or so ago, my brother was presenting some slides at a nonholonomous dynamics conference in Moscow. This, being that he and his group originated from varying depths of Africa, lead to some humourous cultural exchanges.

Thus it comes about that in return for his group being swamped with people wishing to take a picture with "негритянский" (negro), I am enjoying store-brand Russian cheddar and my father received cheap chocolate branded as "Ordinary Miracle" for Father's Day.

There's something I enjoy about the novelty of absolutely mundane things from far away lands. There is absolutely nothing special about this cheese, but it's labelled in Russian! The chocolate cost something like a single rouble, but it's definitely Russian chocolate. More interesting than specifically marketed tourist goods, IMO. Maybe I'm strange.

Hey, if you want more store-brand Russian cheese or whatever, I can send you some. Even more Обыкновенное чудо, if you still have teeth after trying it. Sorta tastes like getting type 2 diabetes, doesn't it? I remember it being sold in my school cafeteria. I had a tendency to eat one stick of it and forget the other one in my backpack, wherein it melted into a horrifying chocolatey sludge all over my textbooks.
Also, NB: "негр" doesn't really have the weird old-timey racist connotations that "negro" has in English, it just means "black person" more or less. Has the same origin, though. I kinda got burned by that one once while learning English, so yeah.
