I have my concerns as well.

But like, I have too many hours on FTL to pretend I'm not going to give it a chance.  We'll see what happens.

Edit: To be clear, I agree with Egan, it looks awesome and the pixelated tiles are giving me a lot of Advanced Wars nostalgia.  The environmental effects look interesting and the fact that you're defending cities gives it a lot of stake for such a simple presentation.  My main concern about it is that it looks like the combat has no unknown or random element, making your actions each turn probably pretty obvious.  On the other hand, in FTL it was generally obvious moment to moment what you should do, it was the consequences 10 minutes later you had to worry about.

I think the problem is that this is supposed to look good on a 4-inch mobile phone screen or larger. "Detailed" works against that. Zoom out and put your phone against the image until both are the same size, then decide if you'd want higher detail or not. Even if it's on steam first, they're looking towards a multi-platform launch later I'd guess, and that means designing for a range of screen sizes starting at "tiny".

So a TV upgrade here ended up sparking some discussion on reorganizing the whole internet & tv situation here which lead to an upgrade to the internet speed. (as well as moving the TV service to go through the ISP instead of separated as its a better deal if they are combined in one package)

Well, I was thinking that it was going to be an upgrade from 15mbps to 25mbps and although there is a 50mbps package (at the same price as the 25 even) It wasn't available here, no infrastructure to support it or something.  Well the ISP guy comes installs the new hardware for the upgrade and..... Its the 50mbps service apparently, Very very nice, especially as like 4 years ago as far as it was known it was impossible to even get 1mbps here.

This also, comes with a rather respectable amount of upload bandwidth which is something I've -never- had access too, and although it isn't enough do do one of them uber 1080p 60fps promlg streams, its enough for 720p@30, though my PC isn't strong enough to do any sort of streaming beyond stuff like Open transport tycoon or Dungeon Crawl, I might still try playing around with the whole streaming thing once in awhile.

While casually invading poland for the weekend I found a very strange field with some very strange crops that had to be harvested with bullets. There was about 909 of these weird crops but they tasted funny so they were burned.

Too bad!

Edit: Wow I noticed a lot of cute things I could do in the predeployment screen I forgot existed. Like being able to regenerate or somewhat set up the map. And I remembered I could adjust HQs and so on and stuff... Making me wonder if I could make a fun forum game out of this if anyone wouldn't mind the likely slow pace.

I'm in a pretty good mood, I'm smiling and bubbly and feel like doing stupid stuff though there's nobody around to laugh at it. I haven't even had an energy drink or that much coffee today! To feel this alright I usually have to be at the three-quarter point of a caffeine rush.
