If you're a guard patrolling around at night where it's quiet, and you hear a noise as startling as that, you're going to investigate or even sound the alarm, depending on the situation.

TBH it's loud, yeah, but it's not gun-loud, and a possum falling off a tree makes about as much noise.

Nah, he just can't talk yet, so he refers to animals by the noises they make in his books, or at least as close as he can come to the noises. Lions are 'Raaaa', crocodiles are 'Snap-snap', elephants are 'Wooo' and cats are 'Mweh'

Hilarious guy I'd never heard of before, Lui Calibre.  I'm not sure whether he uses a modulator or just has a very talented voice.  Pretty sure it's the latter!
