I applied last night for an attorney position in a small office and just got a call about it from the man himself. It's about 10 people or so total, but this guy is rather impressive with a ton of degrees and certificates. Anyhow, he'd like to talk tomorrow and set up a meeting etc.

I'm concerned he won't be able to pay much / want to pay much, but it's a step up overall and has potential to teach quite a bit. I'll admit that I'm good but he's better and I have a lot to learn from him. He's a (certified) specialist in his field of law and several other non legal areas. I must say I've heard good things about him.

I've recently, finally been getting some interest from prospective jobs. This is a welcome and new development, because I've been slandered so badly for the past couple of years that no one would touch me. I won't get into details, but basically some of the jerks I turned in are now facing long felony federal prison sentences for their very, very bad acts. Oddly, I've been told not to even bring this up, because there is such a stigma against "rocking the boat" "making waves" or heaven forbid "whistleblowing" but when it is so bad that somebody is actually facing a 20 year to life sentence for their crimes. Shit. Personally, people get it and want something done about that level of evil horseshit. Professionally, "don't rock the boat." Meh. Lovely to know being ethical has cost me hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost wages I can't sue over (what would I sue them for? Their federal prison cells?). Basically they pulled the old "I know you are but what am I?" Accused me of doing what they had done. Nopes, enjoy prison, and thanks for messing up my life in a failed attempt to avoid that sentence.

I like to imagine all the people who bet on the newly incarcerated wrong horse are gratifyingly shutting up after realizing the basics of their horrid mistake.
Meaning I might finally not have people after me trying to blackball me.

I decided to pick up Gearhead and am actually getting the hang of this thing without dying! Probably because Gearhead has an actual tutorial compared with other roguelikes.

In very different news, besides the usual bi-weekly tabletopping happening today for me (where i pretty much won the price for the most gut-wrenchingly horrible pun, which in this case was a reroll token lobbed at me by the GM), i also stumbled upon Free Music Archive recently, and true to its name, there's free music in there (and it's completely legal, everything's Creative Commons in there). Perhaps a bit more surprisingly, some of it is actually really good. I admit i wasn't really expecting much, but... Well, i ain't complainin'. :v

I'm pretty involved with my branch of my student government, and last year, I got elected to be the space's Co-chair, a position that assists the Chair, and learns how to run the meetings/lead the space. Now, elections have come around again, and I'm running for Chair. One of the reasons I'm so stressed/terrified is because, over the last year, I had been operating under the assumption that I would run unopposed, as most people had before me. You can imagine my distress when one of the other members of the space nominated herself to be Chair. I can see why she did it; she's a junior, and is going to be graduating next year, so she can't do the Co-chair -> Chair route. And she's a really qualified candidate (not to say that I'm not, but still, you get my point) so my nerves are all bunched up and in a massive knot of stress. 7 hours left till the meeting, 7 hours left of holding in my sheer terror aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

It's such a relief, I actually feel physically better. The space spent about an hour trying to decide who to elect. They made the candidates sit in a different room, as to make sure that everyone can talk candidly about the candidates. That wait was so stressful, I started to get shakes. Eventually we all relaxed, and put on some Led Zeppelin and Queen at full volume.
Feels good to have that behind me, and have next year ahead of me.
