Well, yeah, the temptation is strong, but I made a mistake, one enormous one, but it was something I did honestly, so I'm not just going to wipe that away in favour of a better ending.

The only thing permanently affecting your save is the ending of No Mercy/Genocide.

In my case I kinda thought that she would sorta surrender or somesuch when her health got low but then a 200 some hp attack randomly happened and then she was deaded so I just ran with it and occasionally call and feel some remorse.

To be honest, I feel like the people who haven't played Undertale at this point are unlikely to ever play it because for some reasons they decided they didn't like the game.

Whenever something stablishes a fandom so large and quickly, with fanstuff being thrown around constantly, it also ends up kind of alienating people who didn't get into it initially, because fandoms tend to push away people that don't belong to it by being a little crazy about the thing they're fans of. Given undertale's fandom is deeply connected with the homestuck fandom, I wouldn't be surprised people that didn't try it on release or a bit after just don't feel like trying it now.

I've had Undertale spoiled to hell and back, so I'd get literally nothing out of playing it at this point. I like it, there's just... no point in playing it now. Maybe I'll pick up the sequel if it ever gets one.

The thing is though, all the things that would have really convinced me to play Undertale are massive spoilers. And "Retro oldskool indie NES RPG like Earthbound!!!11!1!" is exactly the kind of recommendation that turns me off to a game very, very quickly, since I didn't like Earthbound and I feel that people are overly quick to get excited for anything "retro".

Yea, the whole "omggg indie retro earthbound-eske rpg for the pc!!" thing would've totally turned me away from Undertale if it wasn't for the fact that certain people whose opinions I respect ended up liking it quite a bit. Hell, even slowbeef ended up liking it.
