I was looking at my finances and re-confirmed to myself that I should be able to retire in 10 years.  If my stocks and the markets do well, maybe even as soon as 7 years.   :)

Yep. IIRC, the requirement that foreigners get an HIV test was put in place to prevent the country's Krokodil needles from further contamination...

Just got back from leading a backpacking trip.
Three days, thirteen (well, we lost one halfway through to mountain lions foot pain) twelve-fourteen year-old boys, four adults (including myself), seventeen miles, ninety tortillas and seven pounds of cheese.
It was good to be out in the backcountry, with none of the worries of the outside world; just you, the group, and the natural world. It's nice to get away from it all and just be.
