Well, why the hell not? At the store here I buy (because my tap water is undrinkable,) 9.5L jugs for the fridge and 24 packs of .6L bottles to take to work. I can carry 4 of the former and 2 of the latter, and that's only because I run out of hands. Back when I was a store auditor/tech dude (would you believe that this job paid almost minimum wage?) for a regional grocery chain, I used to carry the 60 packs of .6L bottles because no one else would.

Here in the States they sell it for upwards of a dollar a bottle, and they're not even big bottles. And our tap water is pretty good most places.

Far as I know, tap water in Australia is terribad, so maybe buying bottles of the crap isn't unjustified.

First rule of capitalism: If its free, its of shitty to mediocre quality. Although maybe NZ's government just gives everyone free tap water? If so, props to them.

No, the tap water here is fine. Some places might not have been connected to the main pipes but those would mostly be in the country. My nan's house used water from a tank until about 8ish years ago though more because the house hadn't had any major work on it since it was built in the 60s I think. A lot of the small towns around Melbourne have seen a really big development rise in the last 15 years. Places over the last 25 years have gone from near bush and farmland to suburbia.

Technically, it's the district council, so technically we pay for water in our rates, but usage isn't measured and we don't get charged any different however much we use.

Unless you're a farmer, in which case you're whining about the council taxing your multi-million-litre water usage.

We have terrible tap water here.
Man, now I kinda miss having a rainwater tank back when I lived in the country. :-/

Anyway, back to happies: it was unexpectedly pouring with rain when I went to leave the library, so I sat on one of the couches and read for a good long while. Now the sun's out and shining on my back through the window. Feels nice.
