EDIT: Also since there's relevant talking going on in another thread I decided to try making an unbreakable warhammer in Fortbent using alchemization and forgot that the material with the adjective "unbreakable" actually had the name "steel folded 50 times" (since it's supposed to be used for a weapon called "unbreakable katana")

From what I've been told the best way to deal with religion-preachers is to not give away the fact that you're in home, and don't talk to them. At all. Talking is the thing they specialize in.

If you find that that talking skill is too high you can always enter combat.  That will end any of their attempts to influence you.

I beat Dark Souls! Just me and my 15+ Large Club originally pilfered off a mutant barbarian, and I pound my way through all the bosses with relative ease. Just one tenderizing strike at a time, and a little help from Solaire.

Feelin accomplished, even though there is still SO MUCH CONTENT I haven't even looked at yet. Time to continue rolling through NG+ or a new character alltogether.

Are you playing on PC? If so, did you have to mess around to get it playable? I heard that the PC port of Dark Souls was kinda terrible, but I'd like to see what all the hype is for myself.

The PC port is garbage, yes, but it definitely does work after some jiggering. I got the game a while back but never made it through the tutorial, so I don't know if there are any problems further down the line.
