Yeah. Was about to leave to go back to my near-campus apartment, cat peed on it just as I was about to grab it, so I left it at home and the folks took it to the cleaners.

Had a wonderful quiet Thanksgiving with the significant other. She made a corned beef brisket which was to die for, and I whipped up some bourbon mashed sweet potatoes which were omnomnomtastic. (See food thread for details).

Now to enjoy the food semi-coma....

Filled with food, and now I've snuck off from the family to watch lecture videos and try to get some work done since I've already wasted so much time this week.

Working on putting multiple terrain layers into my erosion simulation. Put a max where I meant to put a min. The result was all the soil on the map liquefying into a grey substance which constantly tried to deposit itself back on the rock layer and roiling ferociously.

I do so love silly bugs.

Can we see what it looks like when it doesn't work? It sounds interesting.

That looks awesome. Looks very natural, and not out of place for a shore/delta. Oddly reminds me of the nearby national park with how the beaches and rivers look. I'm also curious how the buggy version looks now, if this is how it's supposed to work.

Not quite as buggy as the previously mentioned one, but a close approximation.

But yeah, one of the big goals I've had with this was generating interesting and more realistic terrain than you would get from a typical simple procedural generation technique. The erosion processes result in a terrain which has a history; showing evidence of past flooding and sedimentation, like you would see in real geological landscapes.

Oh my that is impressive. Did you code it from scratch? How does one start creating something like this?
