Rook Knight Bishop King Queen Pawn.
In Dutch they're called Horse and Tower :P
And the Bishop is called "Runner".
I always called the Rook the Castle. Also I didn't know that a Bishop wasn't just a chess piece until I was, like, 14.

In Mak Ruk, the Thai chess variant, the Rook is called a Ship, and they're the strongest pieces in the game, because they can move like a western Rook while all the other pieces are slow and terrible. (The counterpart for the queen, the Seed, is the weakest piece in the game apart from the pawns.)

Only moves on diagonals, only moves one tile.  The "bishop" (nobleman/mask) also only moves one tile, but can at least move forward one as well as diagonally. 

EDIT: The queen/counselor's movement, it may be worth noting, is actually true to the Persian and Indian versions as well; Europe is the odd one out.

It's basically a one-tile bishop.

The Bishop counterparts, the Noblemen, are also weird. They can move on the three squares in front of them, and move backwards one tile diagonally.
