I just realized the manager at work (well, one anyway; the one who's in charge for most of the day when I'm working) is beyond cool. He asks if employees need anything before they leave and uses his manager discount for them, and is ironclad when it comes to making sure people get their breaks on time and get to leave when they're scheduled to be off. I don't mind staying late if this guy is in charge.
It's wonderful, isn't it. I've quit well-paying jobs due to horrible management, and never regretted it.
My current manager is awesome like that, too; not the manager discount, but the staff discount is 55% anyways, and she does give free stuff on some days!
She is also the one with the most experience, at ~7 years.
Unfortunately, she feels like a figure head. Because HER boss is horrible, and gets his flawed hands in everything. Oh, wait he got fired. And replaced. By someone from another region, who a co-worker who used to work in that region tells me is even worse than the horrible boss. Basically, we can't hire enough staff to get all our breaks on time, because budget, and we can't carry new products that the Tim Hortons liscence is demanding we carry, because budget and counter space, and we can't call for help from the other kiosks when they're not busy and we have one of our famous two-kilometer lines anymore, because "they need to man their stations". Yeah, you really need four people manning the kiosk that sells frozen pre-cooked pizza when they're serving 1 person every 15 minutes, when we're serving 32 people in that same time on the same number of staff?
TL;DR
My boss is awesome too, but her boss is the devil.
