Wait.  What programming language is this?  'Cause I'm fairly sure that you mean "KILL_CHAR=1;" with a single-equals sign, not that double-equals sign.  It's assigning a value of "true," right?  Then single.
Otherwise, it will just return a value of true or false on whether KILL_CHAR is true.

I was going off java script and also your right " KILL_CHAR==1; " can't work maybe making it a function instead  " KILL_CHAR(); " would look better. Or we could just say F**K it this is the internet
