So, I bought Super Mario 3D Land today.

** REVIEW BE CAREFUL M8 **

STORY: 1/10
There is no story. Nobody actually talks. But that doesn't matter at all, because it's MARIO TIEM and Mario doesn't give a shit about story, so it doesn't matter here. To shorten it, when you start a world, you find a magic floating envelope with a picture of Bowser doing evil shit accompanied by Peach screaming "MARIO!". Then you have to go beat up a bunch of mooks and eventually Bowser or one of his kids or something.
GAMEPLAY: 9/10
Plays like a cross between the original SMB-- 3, 4 levels per world, castle at the end-- SMB 3-- Toad houses, random bonus spots-- and a 3D Mario game like 64, Sunshine, or Galaxy. The powerups are typical (the Super Leaf returns!) and the levels are well-designed and have a reasonable level of difficulty. My few complaints thus far are world 2-4, I think it was, which seemed designed to piss me off, and how the first few levels are basically built to give you extra lives.
GRAPHICS: 8/10
Mariokart 7 was better, but they're still badass for a Mario game. The bits and scraps of old 8-bit style graphics add nostalgia to the mix.
MUSIC: 9/10
A lot of it is throwbacks to old music, which I like. The new stuff sounds pretty boss.
FEEL/LOOK/ETC.: 9/10
The game feels like a mix between the older games and the newer ones. There's the enemy models that are up-to-date to the newer games, but the random floating bricks and stuff give it a classic feel. It's cool.
OVERALL: 35/40 (8.75/10)
