I would recommend 'Cowboy Bebop' because it is the greatest and WHY HAS NO-ONE RECOMMEND IT YET IN THIS....
... also 'Death note' if your into the unnatural and buddy cop weirdness but warning about...

Edit: Now I am sure that it is from 'Shadow of Chernoby', cause of the sites and hand model.

I started with FLCL, then Evangelion, Trigun, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Cowboy Bebop. I would highly recommend any of those.
