Fred Phelps was a rather bitter and hateful man, but I don't think we should be celebrating anyone's deaths in this topic.

I personally find it sad he died without realizing the monster of a cult he created, especially since it even turned on him. Maybe now he'll have some time to consider and think over what he's done.

To be honest, he was a vile and hateful man, but that's all he was. There are thousands, hundreds of thousands, worse than him: he said gays were damned to hell and picketed funerals, but he didn't gather the lads on a friday night and beat one to death in a alley for fun. He spread a hateful message, sure, but I doubt it changed a thing. Those who wanted to hate on homosexuals no doubt did already, while those who don't are unlikely to be swayed by his rhetoric.

Futility, and so is hating him. He's dead, and plenty of people have smiled at this news, when what they really should do is shrug.
