I just got my hands on a rare Japanese Digimon original V-pet ver. 5, something I'd all but given up on ever finding years ago.

I started it on Christmas day and had it evolve into two of my favourite mons so far (Gazimon->Devidramon). Virtual pets are so simple, I tend to forget how much fun I have raising them.

Speaking of Digimon, I got my sister a copy of the newest Digimon World for 3DS (Re:Digitize Decode) for Christmas, and it looks absolutely great. The gameplay is based on Digimon World 1 (which I loved) but with a new story and setting and a nice cross-section of all the new monsters they added in the past 13 years available.

It's killing me that I can't actually play it, because I don't have her Japanese-reading superpowers. It sure is helping re-motivate me to try learning, though.

The greatest powers of the 19th centuries were the countries to first industrialize and utilize their resources.
One of the greatest resources at hand were the large numbers of farm children.
Utilizing them was highly effective. They required less pay, they were afforded less protection, could not strike nor form unions, could be educated to conform to the city life with none of the brevities nor niceties of the rural life needing to be hammered out - no, these malleable workers were ready to be pressed, molded and set to work.
I assure you, it is amazing what humanity can achieve when it starts getting misanthropic.

Believe you me, people will keep having kids no matter what. Children that get too old to produce power can produce more children, no need to euthanize, just let them do their thing.
