Seems like someone's manipulating the market. ((Conspiracy theory time)). Didn't the CIA/FBI/NSA/whatever organization is responsible roll up the Silk road recently? Probably captured a large amount of bitcoins during that operation, and are using them to manipulate the market. Not only do they make a profit, they also reduce trust in the platform.

Or it might just be natural fluctuation.

The Silk Road thing is pretty interesting, because I read an article in the newspaper that had an interview with someone tangentially involved, and they acknowledged that drug dealing and the other activities there would continue, except with less trustworthy/trusting people.
So they were aware that they were removing a relatively safe platform and driving people into a more dangerous situation. yay government!

The curse is lifted!

See, before this I had never been able to hold onto a job for more than three months. My resume is just a bunch of three-month jobs scattered through the years, plus one volunteer position that lasted a year. But as of today, I have been at the same job for four months, thus breaking the curse! And since this is a job I enjoy and don't totally suck at, I don't see myself leaving any time soon.

After fuel/repair costs, how much do you typically take home?

This is better than the original Chrono Cross intro in every way.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

The company pays for fuel, repairs, and other truck-related incidentals. On average I take home about $500 a week.

Ok I don't mean to sound rude or spiteful or anything, and I really don't want to ruins your happy mood but... You are making about half of what a truckie over here would be making for their first year.

Yeah, I'm working as a checkout chump in a supermarket, and I make half of that, for ten hours a week. Granted, cost of living is way higher over here.

Yeah but you guys have to deal with deadly wildlife, plus you tend to pay twice as much for video games.

Besides, my company may not offer as much salary-wise (a fact remarked upon frequently by my fellows), but they take really good care of their drivers. Up to and including paying for things like airfare and hotel accommodations when needed, or getting drivers home ASAP if something comes up.

Well you are right in that things tend to cost a lot more over here... But the solution is to order stuff from over seas!  :D
Still, good to hear you have a company that is looking after you.

I saw the new Gatsby movie, up to the scene where Gatsby's throwing clothes at Daisy.

It's so fucking slick, and glitzy, and snazzy with its CGI and crazy transitions, sometimes it feels like a really long trailer.  At the same time all the CGI and hypervivid colors gave it this unreality, something like the new Hobbit movie had.  Sometimes I could've sworn Tom Buchanan was actually a very well-made CGI puppet.

Then when you penetrate the glamorous surface, the movie kind of sucks.  In a way though, isn't that perfect?

The thing that bothered me the most was Daisy's pretty little fool speech.  In the movie it comes off as a genuine insight, rather than a disingenuous and self-indulgent sort of "look how cynical and jaded I am" thing.

Base Score, four not-quite-Tom Buchanans out of ten.

Postmodern Score, ten Great Gatsby movies that use glitz and glamour to conceal their inner emptiness out of ten.

Ah, but isn't that what the story was all about? That's the beauty of it.

Plus I couldn't help but imagine Nick was Spiderman. It made for great headfiction.
