For the most part, I don't like painting because there's very little technical skill involved. Get paint and paper, draw some shapes on a flat surface, add shading, and you're done. Yeah, there are some decent examples out there (there was a spanish one about melting clocks and memory or something) but the floor and ceiling are so much lower than most other types of visual art, due to a lack of technical proficiency, that it amplifies Sturgeon's Law so much that it should read, "95% of everything is utter and complete dogshit, and the rest is mediocre," when applied to painting.

There's just so much better art out there that there's no point in wasting the time looking at the mediocre stuff.
You seem to have misinterpreted my opinion, here. Yeah, I get it, bashing an entire genre of something is bad. Problem is, I don't like anything in that genre, or any sub-genres thereof. Nothing within the genre appeals to me on any level. Maybe I'm biased because I grew up in an urban area and had rap crammed down my throat as a teenager because that was what was popular, but even the pieces held up to be of the high quality (see Soli's post, et al,) just...aren't of a very high quality when compared to other forms of music. Maybe I'm getting more closed-minded as I get older, but frankly, I just don't understand why people enjoy rap, and the examples above haven't been helping.
And to be honest with the example, I don't understand why people like paintings. I mean, they're kind of nice and sometimes technically impressive, but I don't really enjoy the experience of looking at them. They're just... there. And I look at them.

Went out, got somewhat drunk for the first time in a month or so, talked to random strangers (and people I saw once at an anime club meeting) without any fear or anything (two of them were rather cute girls). Come back home, get one hell of a munchie, grab some bread and schintzels and nom on that, then grab some ajvar (have I ever said anything about this food for the gods? baked red paprikas and eggplants, with various spices and garlic minced together into a beautiful red paste makes for awesome bread spread and general additive to anything) and just munch on that.

Now that I've sated the thirst I feel drunk and awesome, time for some internet nonsene and then sleep :D

Having a blast manning the candy bowl; I'm yanking the door open and roaring to scare the pants off the kids at every knock ^_^

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

My parents do a haunted yard thing that kids have to get through. Invite friends over, everyone brings candy, etc. One year a kid was so scared when he fled, the next morning we found his mask.

For those who don't like rap: have you ever by chance listened to Epic Rap Battles of History?

Brutal Doom V19 is out, by the way. It's glorious. RIP'N TEAR

Also, that song the dwarves sing in The Hobbit when they're all in Bilbo's house and singing about everything Bilbo Baggins hates. Three times a day, at least, for three weeks straight, and then it weaned after that.
Bend the forks and smash the plates,
sing about what Bilbo hates,
three times a day for three weeks straight!
That's what Bilbo Baggins hates!

In the epic conclusion to the latest "Life of Sealy" story arc, after a melodramatic night of making sure I had everything in (don't ask), I finally took down the horror that is the University of Michigan's application process, and discovered that my counselor is a genuinely wonderful person (but the rest of the administration are lazy fucks, seriously).

You will not have to hear me whine about senior problems for at least a week or two, hopefully.

Aww, we in the US have an hour to go. But I'm going to sleep because I've had no sleep and want to be able to actually think tomorrow.

I know the rap tangent probably ended a while ago, but my $0.02:

I can't think of a single rap song I ever liked. It's probably thanks to the fact that my exposure to the genre so far has been strictly limited to the worst sorts of gangsta rap (guns, drugs, hos, the n-word repeated ad nasueam, etc), but I'm incredibly predisposed against the stuff.

Had a bit of a nice experience today in terms of halloween. Spent the evening with a friend, at another person's house, got to take my first stab at pumpkin carving (didn't turn out very well), and then I got to experience trick or treating, which was nice. This was followed by a watching of MST3K's Manos, Hands of Fate... which really was hilariously awful. All in all, not a bad night I guess.

Good luck! It's a great school. Though I can't say as much about the Soviet Socialist Republic of Ann Arbor.

I live in a neighborhood where nobody lets their kids out to go trick or treating, mostly because of the bar down the street and the roaming level 1 drunks.
Doesn't stop me from getting heaping amounts of candy, though!
Not like my teeth already hurt, or anything.
