Why is it that games that shit on the protagonist amuse me sooooo~
Started playing Last Remnant. Main character dude is thus far a mostly useless idiot that's getting his arse pulled out of the fire by a duex ex machina. Sister got kidnapped right in front of him while he got wailed on. Goes off hunting, case of mistaken identity (which is like point the one "This guy is an idiot." Sister is young and brunette. Lady he thought was her is middle aged and blonde.) ends up with him in the middle of an pitched battle right as the arcane tac nuke goes off. Swag saves ass, falls in hole with mistaken-identity lady. Ask what's going on, response is, "We fell in a hole. Now we're in a cave. Need anything else obvious pointed out?" Which kinda' sets the tone for his interaction with other people so far.
Ends up being helped by MI-L and her allies because they realize he's toting a Duex ex Machina (and god damn isn't that refreshing?) and he's the kid of high level weapons researchers. So now he's getting help! By a seemingly obvious going-to-turn-out-to-be-evil ruler (Sephiroth prettyboy vibes like goddamn and giant fuckoff cannon, check), MI-L (Thinks main-character is an idiot, is giving off serious "I want to kill this fucker" vibes, and looks like a middle aged soldier), Goro the Catboy, giant sexual predator fish dude, and sociopath rabbitlizard (Kingdom's spymaster, by all appearances). Who despite being the high muckitymucks of an entire kingdom are more-or-less dropping everything to help out some mostly-random country bumpkin. Riiiiight.
Maybe (probably) I'm reading too much into it, and I'm definitely not far in. But. Bad moon rising, ahahahaha! Hopefully, anyway. Leave me to my delusions.
And I love it. There's this constant shit-eating grin lurking in the back of my subconcious going, "This guy is screeeewwweeeedddd." Which is good, 'cause the protagonist is like the only character I don't like thus far, haha.
Haven't got this much chuckle from a game since Black Sigil, which starts out the game wearing steel toed tapdancing cleats riverdancing on the protagonist's head (and gets better fairly shortly into the game, but that first bit is great~).
