Girlfriend #2

How many do you have?

Two at the moment, possibly a third interested in me. As Haspen said, I'm poly. #1 and #2 know about each other, and they're good with it. I don't plan on building a harem or anything, because open polyamory becomes inherently unstable and unmanageable with more than a few people.

#1 is someone I'm madly in love with, but she lives ~100 miles away and is in an open-but-unhappy marriage (for now).
#2 is someone who I've recently met and who is a lot of fun, but we're not picking out china patterns or anything. More than "just friends" though.

I can't even begin to understand that line of thought. If it works for you, that's great, but if I had a girlfriend and she truly and honestly wanted to be with more than one guy at the same time, I'd say "sure!"

Then I would stick a one-dollar bill in her hand and slam the front door behind her. Good fucking riddance.

Sorry if that's insulting. I can see how a poly relationship could be enjoyable, but not for me and the people I'd date.

Not insulted. It's not for everyone, and it's not easy. Well....it's easy to do BADLY. As in, not being honest with everyone involved and just sleeping around. That's not polyamory, it's promiscuity. Open polyamory means everyone involved knows of everyone else involved, and nothing proceeds without everyone's consent. Which is another reason it's untenable past just a few people.

"Hey, yeah I'd love to come back to your place...but do you mind if I okay this with my four girlfriends, and their seven boyfriends first? Hey, where you going??" 

Honestly, if GF #1 and I were actually TOGETHER (as in living in close proximity), it'd probably be different.  This is merely relational adaptation to circumstances. They both see a couple of other people, with my knowledge and consent. Like I said, it's not for everyone and it takes a lot of frank discussion and maturity. Feelings can get hurt easily otherwise.

LOL...good point, this discussion should probably end before Toady says something. Suffice it to say, yes I have GF #1 and #2, and they are both very special ladies to me.

Obviously, you create a country for each group, and then tenuously keep them from starting war with each other. That, or you could just hang out with more chill people.

I CAN TRY DAMMIT 
Basically, every additional person involved is an exponential increase in complexity. My family tree is complicated enough, don't need a relationship tree that rivals it.

@cerapa: .....now I'm trying to figure which would be more  - provoking: using tantrum spirals to explain polyamory to the DF crowd, or using it to explain DF to the polyamory crowd. "W-wait...why are they always drinking and beating that poor guy with a hammer?!?"

Polyamory seems to work best in either tiny (five or under) groups, or if it's completely open in every way and all participants understand this.
