Many old games were huge time sinks, weren't they?  Like, Pokemon.  First game came out in 1996, which is ancient in video game years.

I still think Dragon Warrior is the ur-example, it came out in 1986. It is also possibly the most tedious game known to man, way more of a raw timesink than any modern game I can think of.

Pokemon actually has more strategy and less grinding than most RPGs, although it is sort of too easy for this to matter much (unless you get into competitive multiplayer, I guess, but I never did).

I would love to see Yahtzee review DF. Hilarity would doubtlessly ensue.

inb4 shitstorm.

Okay, basic argument is that is in alpha, he has shown no interest in it (he reads the lets play archives, definitely knows about Boatmurdered) and couldn't really do it justice. Plus Aqizzar sent a large email to him concerning it and got no reply.

These aren't my arguments, I'm just hoping that by putting them out there I can prevent others from bothering.

Rock Paper Shotgun is currently my favourite gaming blog out there. They like Dwarf Fortress, they have done articles on it, and they only focus on PC gaming = Win.

Hmmm, how do you know about the e-mail, did he post it somewhere? Just asking because it might make interesting reading.

i like rps quite a bit too

Yahtzee wouldnt touch df until it became a comercial product. An i doubt he'd look to hard unless it made it on to the main stream. Generally he only reviews 1st or 3rd person experience games and gimiks like guitar hero. He doesnt do strategies or more hardcore rpgs (he doesnt really do that many pc games tbh).

the tigger saucers love df, they even interviewed toady1 awhile ago, i check their blog loads, it might even have been what made me aware of df. maybe i should start another thread for this but how did others find df?

It's in my old topic, 'Yahtzee loves lets play, how long before he discovers Boatmurdered'.

I'm a bit lazy, so you look it up.
