Proabably the wrong area for this but still.

I have a child walking around who's now a Legendary stone craftsdwarf. I know some develop earlier than others but he must be a prodigy.

Anyway, this is the first fortress of mine where I'm certain I'm ready for a goblin siege, although All I've gotten are ambushes, most of which happen when the traders are around. With their retinue. Who have those sharp steel sticks.

For once none of my dwarves are thirsty or starving, we have plenty of crossbows, Axes and chainmail, we have more beds than dwarves, many master craftdwarves, Over 200 traps, A lucrative trade and a lot of Goblin bones in my refuse pile.

Update. Dear. Freaking. Armok. A zombie dragon? That thing killed half of my military, no forget that, All but one squad of my military, and now I probably have to try to make my dwarves happy again because of the dead count. And this was just after a goblin siege that didn't go quite as they planned. I say this, because stepping onto Rock traps and into my tamed large leopard chained outside my entrance turned out to be fatal, and the rest who didn't get killed by that were mopped up by the various dwarves who are walking around carrying Crossbows.

But still. A Zombie dragon.
Anyway, its dead now, unundead or redead or whatever, don't know how, as for the most part, it turned out that wooden and bone bolts are as useful against it as kicking a mountain.

Second update, same day: Another child has entered a mood, although this one is possessed.
Question; what self respecting spirit takes over a child, when there are so many adult dwarves, who's professions could easily fit the needs of the most demanding creativity striken Ghoul?

My Fortress hasn't been put through the wringer yet, but the Zombie dragon almost cooked us.

All this has happened, but I want to ask a few simple questions. Do these dwarves put any furniture out, without me telling them exactly what type, and where? I mean, I have 30 tables, and they complain of no dining tables. They haven't been set out, but why can't they say 'hey, there's some spare space over there. Why not fix the problem?'
This is probably a stupid question, but one I'm asking anyway.

Also, Hello, I'm Dara, play dwarf fortress, and use Mike Maydays Tile graphics. This is my first post. Hello. Dundwarf means Dwarf castle in Irish. Or something like it.

The only thing they do by themselves is eat, drink, tantrum and take breaks.

Don't forget go insane. And make more dwarves.

I always considered it a plus that Toilet facilities are not required. Although the whole thought of Toilet paper would amuse me.

You need to set up the tables before they use them by going to (b)uild -> (t)able

Yeah. I was just wondering if there could be, in some bright shining future when Dwarves can stand tall and Goblins and eat dirt and die, If a Dwarf, male, female, no difference is made, that they will see a table, hear the plaintive cries of the populus for tables, and say "This could be the answer."

Whatever. Its still a fun game and if it played itself, then what fun would that be?

Well, its referring to the fact Dwarves are short, thus Tall is an oxymoron, and the goblin part refers to my rockfall traps, and how Goblins can eat dirt and die. Its a more polite example of the phrase 'eat shit and die.'

Considering I think dirt is literally fossilized dung, this is accurate.

EDIT: Bugger. That was meant to be 'can' between goblins and eat. Sorry about that.

The "crowned table" part might be caused by more than one chair per table. Dwarves enjoy to eat alone, even if there's 120 other dwarves in the same room.

Do you really want your dwarves able to build stuff everywhere? Really?

There's a reason that you are in control, and it's so that dwarf squatters don't come and camp in the new gladiator arena that's being dug out: so they don't chuck down a bed anywhere they like, littering your halls and corridors with useless furniture. How do you expect to kill nobles if they can say "actually, I don't like this lever here, I think I'll deconstruct it."?
So no, they don't put furniture out. It's a nice idea in theory, but in practice would be hell.

seriously... it's DF. It's hell already.

but anyway, I'd like it if you could put down multiple objects at once. Like a row of tables or something.

(Just a minor topic diversion)

Yeah, he's a banned spammer. Normally we'd delete this thread too, but people were having too much fun with it by the time we got here.

I was also wondering if the Ants could be incorporated into DF as a toy, an Ant farm. Through it, the Dwarf children can play 'Ant fortress', learning the various social skills and secrets of mining from the tiny miners. Also, they will learn why not to drop glass items, and why 'ants in your pants' does make you jump around the place yelling at the top of your voice.

And perhaps fly swatters. Something to at least get rid of those goddamned flies.

I'm still reeling from the thought of a zombie dragon. I noticed the fan art Competition, some flipping amazing work in there. I'm going to try draw it, but should I tell them of it?

@Tack: Yeah, I'd like that too. If you could space them out evenly, but just have that you don't have to lay out each one individually.

@Betamax: God that would be funny. And thanks.

By the way, does anyone know if theres a way to find out how old your dwarves are? Other than cutting them in half and counting the rings.

"I don't like this warm floodgate here, I'll deconstruct it"

And to the OP, a fey or secretive mood results in children with legendary skills that are not social skills.
Welcome to the forum, and nice zombie dragon, I haven't seen any undead dragons yet, must be something with the worlds I gen being low on evil.

What kind of statues are your masons making, that you think they have "maximum exposure"?
(Full frontal ones, apparently.  With very short beards.)

I'm just surprised they can get them. Although, if a child can go insane, why not inspirational?

And I haven't felt the urge to kill my nobles yet. Maybe its because I'm only a few years in and only have reached the Mayor stage. Give me time.

But still, is there a mod or something that shows the dwarves age? It would be nice to see. And how long my forts been going.
