You do know that the Graphire models are basically not much different from the Intuos models, except they're wireless?
Um, all the Wacom tablets are wireless (referring to the pen, I assume). As for the difference between Intuos and Graphire, yeah, they are basically the same thing.
...except that Intuos has a bunch of buttons and a scroll wheel on the side and can also register the tilt and bearing of the pen in addition to its position and pressure. And is a hundred bucks more. But yeah, other than those minor details they are the same thing. ::)

No, referring to the cord that runs between your tablet and the computar. Graphire tablets are wireless Intuos tablets (at least all the ones i've seen are wireless and all the ones Wacom advertise are wireless).

I assume you are aware that there are dozens of different Intuos tablets of differing quality and cost? I'm pretty sure the latest Graphire tablet can do pen tilt as well, although it does indeed lack the extra buttons, due to being designed to be compact and portable.

You're talking complete nonsense. Check the specs out yourself if you're unclear: http://www.wacom.com/productinfo/index.php
Graphire is definitely NOT a wireless Intuos, and there aren't dozens of Intuos tablets (there are four, the only difference being size of the active area and number of buttons). Intuos is top of the line, professional tool. Graphire is.. well, not.

Yeah, um, Wacom only show their latest products on their website. Also i'm counting the different sizes of tablets as different products with the same brand.

Here's an Intous2 tablet;

Here's a Graphire tablet;

Notice a few similarities? The kind of similarities you might see if the product was made more compact and portable?

So, these tablets of which Vester has spoken aren't computers, just attachments?  Disregarding that, how do they compare to pencil & paper?  Is drawing with it similar to drawing with those, just neater?

Well, I personally prefer them, because I used to use up drawing paper like hell before. ;D

Also they're very useful if you have Photoshop (or GIMP, I suppose)

Yes, tablets are attachments to computers.

Drawing with a tablet is similar to drawing with a pencil and paper, but different. It's not really something i can explain, but you use different drawing styles with physical media and a tablet.

The major attraction of tablets is that they tie into the computer; you don't use up reams of paper and any mistakes you make can be completely erased, instead of leaving behind ghost outlines or whatever, you can layer an infinite number of colors to build up on top of things and so on. If you're using Photoshop or GIMP (both programs designed to take advantage of tablets) you can do all sorts of fun things like make your tablet pretend to be an airbrush, or a paintbrush, or watercolors, and you can freely mix and match all these different effects. There's a third program which is specifically designed to replicate real-world media on the computer, but i can't remember what it's called. Gah.

If you have the right software you can also do fun things like use your tablet to sculpt 3D models, or paint textures straight onto the 3D model in question. You can control properties with pen pressure, pen tilt, pen location or any one of the many buttons.

Basically, it's similar to a pen and paper, but far more versatile. And with practice (alot of practice) an artist armed with a good tablet can create jaw-dropping work. (See www.sonsofthestorm.com )

Or for that matter anything Balathustrius and Spreggo post.

Epic stuff.

You can sculpt digital models and add textures to them with a tablet?  Wow.

Also sounds easier to use digital editing software with it.  My problem with those thus far is that I've essentially been trained to think like I'm using pencil and paper, regardless of what I'm actually using.  If I can actually apply what I know about drawing with pencil and paper to those programs, well, I guess I could use them far better than I would otherwise.  Maybe I should get a tablet.

Ovbiously you need the correct software and you can do it with a mouse as well, but yes.

If you can find one to borrow to try out, i would highly reccomend it; a good tablet is quite expensive and it's worth playing around with one for a bit before you decide to look into one.

If you only intend to use it for your own stuff, i'd get something cheap like a Bamboo. But if you're like me and are currently doing a course in Games Design which should hopefully result in a job that will require the use of a tablet, then it's worth putting in the extra dollars.

No. It's a hell of a lot more difficult, the learning curve is pretty steep, and you'll need to spend some time setting it up and configuring it to suit your style. But it's well worth it.

Yeah, um, Wacom only show their latest products on their website.

So? I have a Graphire3, and guess what, it's the exact same thing as Graphire4! The only thing they updated was the looks, the specs are exactly the same. It even works fine with a Graphire4 pen. And no, Graphires aren't wireless-only. You can get a normal wired version as well: http://www.wacom.com/graphire/6x8.cfm

Yeah, and here's a Genius tablet:

Ohmigosh it looks almost exactly alike! It must be the same product! ::) Really, are you that stupid or are you just trolling?
For the record, a Graphire has a resolution of 2048 dpi and 512 levels of pressure sensitivity, Intuos has 5080 dpi and 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity (and also the tilt and bearing capability, which Graphire does not have). They are definitely not the same product.

Corel Painter.

I have not missed that part of your post, I have ignored it because it is irrelevant BECAUSE IT IS NOT THE SAME PRODUCT. Look at the bloody specs! Just like Bamboo is a toy compared to the Graphire, so Graphire is a toy compared to Intuos. It's not just the same thing made smaller.

I'm going to guess there's been a communication breakdown somewhere.

No, there has been a knowledge breakdown when you claimed that Graphire is a compact, wireless Intuos. Which is simply not true.
