I found some strips of tiny wood molding at the hardware store. That and wood filler to smooth everything out, followed by an undercoat of black paint and a drybrushing of citadel chainmail silver (the same way you'd do metal on a miniature). That gives it a pretty decent 'antique' sort of look. I sealed it up with polyurethane.

There are actually two rectangles. One is of the molding, and the other is of plain wood on the back side, so the painting can set into it.

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.

[First post!]

I took the time to dust off my tablet which I've never used, and give the thing a shot. I think I've got the hang of it. Also the first time I put any effort into colouring any of my art - so that's three firsts for me today. :D

I draw a lot on paper, but rarely on the computer. When I do any art on the computer I use a reference sketch anyway (not this time, since the tablet effectively removed that stage  :) ).
