I stopped drawing with normal pencils when I discovered mechanical pencils. Never having to sharpen them is ridiculously convenient. And since I draw small, it keeps the lines thin and workable.

It's true that shading is more difficult to keep even with mechanical pencils, though - unless you have a really light touch, or prefer hatching.

Still there are a lot of different sizes you can use, also strengths - and I figured they are a lot more convenient to carry around because they don't tend to break that often - and even if they did it wouldn't matter that greatly.

Took a lot of experimenting to find the right paper/pencil combination though.

@Urist McScoopbeard:
Would like to see that one finished.
Would like it better if you gave it some decent pose and posture ,)

Not a big fan of paperdolls.

Yeah, mechanical pencils are good, too bad that I keep breaking the lead because of my carelessness.

I was gettin' waaaay to hyped up about 0x10c so I did I quick little diagram of my ship will hopefully look like (excluding most weapons)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Things not labelled are the crawl spaces and maintenance areas (one of which you can see just above the open hanger) and weapons (which arent drawn) The rectangle at the top is the top of a rocket battery (which will serve probabally as my main mode of attack) Also a possible sensor center is not labelled or drawn.

All in all just a little first-stage concept art

The 'depth' of each of these areas is also off

EDIT (since I dont want to double-post):

Here is that ratman i said I might do:

I like his pose, not sure why, it's kind of comedic X)

The ship blueprint is a bit too small to tell apart some parts, the middle section especially.

Also, I think I might be getting back into the game guys:

Love the Mount, Jopax. The only 'issue' I see is that the tail might me too thin - compared to the size of the creature. Could be longer, too.

Some quick sketches of mine, I can't scan them and had to take pictures in really bad lightning.
I apologize for that

☼snip☼

Thanks for the feedback and critique. I checked out the tutorial. It does have helpful info! But when I read it, it was one of those times when I wish I had more formal art training and a better understanding of the terminology used in such. The fact that English isn't my first language makes understanding these tutorials a bit harder too. I only did 2 pieces for my art class, we mostly studied the history of art. All I know is from online tutorials, tips of friends that go to an actual art school and what I gathered the few times when I posed for a painting.

I'll add a background eventually, when I find time, and then I'll fix some mistakes (like the hand) and do something about the edges, especially on the jacket. Thanks for the help again!

@Jopax: Those are way too awesome to be just quick doodlehz :o

I was hoping to get some feedback on this. Is there anything that I missed that should have been done differently?

The left shoe seems very odd, as if its a peg leg or something. Perhaps shading in the middle of it to show the depth of the shoe?

The issue might be more it being placed a little too highly in a slightly weird perspective. Basically, the sole of the foot should about begin where its point is, at the moment.
Furthermore, the face's shading being inconsistent with the horn's also is weird. In fact, the horn has little to no shading compared to the rest of the drawing.
Lastly, the sword's hilt is slightly off center compared to the guard/blade, and your shading makes it look pretty thin and square-ish. Is that intended?
Finally, his eyes look a bit mismatched/misplaced, perhaps due to wrong placement of the horn? I don't know much about scarabs, but their horn didn't grow from where his does, right?
