Also, I've noticed that people seem to think that applying a blur filter to a picture or using a 0% hardness brush makes it look better... It doesn't. Also, lots of people post stuff that's quite clearly done ONLY with a transparent black brush... BLENDING IS USEFUL TO LEARN.

About that, know any good tutorials?

The "black square" is preserved in a quote, and I can see it, if just barely. If you're looking to make images that are difficult to see, the proper way to go about it is to add enough background nonsense to keep the viewer interested for a while, to hold their attention until they finally notice the hidden sub-image, making them go all "holy shit, that was there the whole time".

Ah, I see it now, and it's quite clearly visible to me.

Very different to what I would do... I use too many bright colours and lots of contrasts.

About that, know any good tutorials?

Unfortunately, I don't use tutorials... So I can't help you there. I would suggest linking opacity to pen pressure/turn opacity down and hold alt to temporarily use the colour picker, pick a shade/whatever, and paint it into the surrounding areas, preferably using strokes that define the shape. Here's a rather simple task for you that may help: Try to paint a metal ball, in black and white if you wish, but try to be accurate to the reference, experiment with blending.

Very nice, but the lances stuck in the hill on the left are a bit out of place with the post apocalyptic setting. (I assume that the car rusting on the side of the road has been abandoned for many years.)

They're pine trees.

And if anything else wouldn't survive, pine trees would. (And I would know >>)

what is it.. it takes a long time for radiation to kill trees, because their cells divide so slowly?

is that why they'd survive?

whoops! Sorry. They look a bit skinny to be trees though. Pine trees will grow back from the smallest chunk of root if you leave them alone. Nothing eats them, and nothing's going to cut them down for timber after Man has gone extinct.

Whoops. Went to eat and got ninja'd.
Also, there's a metric butt-ton of them, not only because they reproduce fairly quickly compared to some other trees, but because most reforesting efforts plant pines as opposed to other trees; I imagine at least one would form some sort of resistance.

But really those goddamn trees are tough.

I say I know this because I live in the southeastern US, and where there isn't Kudzu there's pine trees. Where I live, the only kind on trees I've seen in a while that aren't pines are in a people's yards.

I live in the Northwestern U.S. and we have millions of pine trees everywhere. The city park has over 200 large ones, and it's only a 6-block park.
