I was putting in my input about some sword sharpening/degrading/obsidian tools/weapon idea and thought of something that could incorporate most of those - Once degrading weapons/armor gets implemented (or maybe before, now that armies are getting put in) there could be a whole other subset of skills (like the new social skills) for the army - weapon maint. armor maint. and then whatever other leadership, tactics, trickiness etc skills.

Well, unlike those social skills, these maint. skills will only be used in conjunction with their specific item, as in armor main. with armor, so how is it going to increase differently from say Armor User skill? And, say, sword maint. is going to level up at the same second as swordsmanship, no?

How about social skills being turned into military skills?  The pen is mightier than the sword!

They can engrave a bunch of "for a good time call..." messages in the statue garden in order to harass other dwarves they don't like.

What I thought from the topic was along the lines of better discipline.

Dwarfs in the military learn good discipline so they can keep ranks, answer the call to duty in a timely manner, learn to ignore that rumbling in their tummy for a bit so they dont leave the front gate undefended during a siege, etc.
