>inspect beast pens_

you look around the beast pens. mostly you find things like lions and tigers and bears. but then you find something else. a basilisk. contrary to popular belief, basilisks cannot turn people to stone, but they can petrify people with sheer terror, and some powerful basilisks have mind control powers. the basilisk looks up at you and notice he has only one eye. he hisses, "hello there, what happened to all my guard friendssssss?" since there is a guard that dragged himself all the way over here and died, you assume he is more specifically asking what killed them.

'I happened.'

'I got a guy that had your eye.'

'Want it back?'

Oh and attempt to absorb that petrifying power.

by prolonged exposure due to magic items

10 minutes isn't prolonged exposure. not only that, i remember that i said the eye had lost its power. you can either keep it for the future hoard, or give it back to the basislisk

EDIT: Not to imply that there isn't a way to restore it mind you.

I meant absorb from basilisk. So free it, and use it as our steed!

After asking nicely.

Steed... basilisks don't tend to be lot larger then dragons, also what kind of basilisk is it? Those things can be anything from snakes, to small dragons, to many-legged dinosaurs depending on the source myth.

Definitely give the eye back though.

In only needs to be larger than us for us to ride it.
Oh, and find a sword or something, in case we run out of energy for the breath attack.

Never mind, I just looked back a few pages, we're a lot smaller than I thought. That was some impressive slaughter for something the size of a dog.

As for the sword, do we have opposable thumbs? It would be nice to have general sketch of our dragon.

the basilisk is the snake kind. it is about 1.5 times bigger than us.

>Explain what happened to the basilisks guard friendssssss

'I happened.'
'I got a guy that had your eye.'
you take the eye out of your treasure pouch and offer it to the basilisk.
'Want it back?'
the basilisk looks at you for a moment and lets out a throaty hiss. presumably a laugh.
'Oh, thatssss rich. an honessst little dragon trying to be lesss of a greedy extortionissssst, and ssstanding up for jusssstice offering poor wittle me my precioussss eye back. sssssso. tell me what pointlessss favor you think i'll kill myssself doing for you to get my eye back, ssssso you can go back to wringing our clawssss with glee.'

EDIT: also, think dog like lizard creature that can stand on its hind legs if it needs to and front legs that could also pass for arms. also wings. i don't have any artistic skill so i don't think i could draw what i have in mind. next advancement in age i'll try as best i can to give you a general idea.

kinda, but with longer and more muscled arms. those stubby arms you always see on dragons are freaking useless.

Give the eye back nicely

"I have no need for riches or favors. All I wanted is the blood of my wrong-doers , and I am very rich in that today. If you think that all I care for is foolish material goods, then you can continue in thinking that, but may today you be proven wrong"
