lol, 2 FPS
« on: September 17, 2009, 10:22:19 am »

Just read a reply in my other thread. 100 steps = 100 frames = 10 tiles normally.

Then I remembered that my creatures move like 1 tile every few seconds... I  modded dwarves (speed=1) cause I hated how slow they were, and they weren't all that fast (about 5 tiles per second?) ... I've played for 3, 4 days now? It's just 20th mid spring...

So, I turned on the FPS counted.... It showed 0 at first, but went to 2 soon...

lol. Just 7 dwarves and it's already so slow. There is a UG river though, which is quite shallow and flows into a chasm. 6x6 and plenty of creatures....

Something seriously wrong?

EDIT: Meh, the FPS increases as time passes. No idea why... Did optimise init a bit though

Hmm, no idea. Around 10 normally, though it does spike up to 50? when I'm not seeing it. (When I switch to it, it shows 40+, then drops to less than 10).

Must be display problem... Using 40d, cause the d11's give me some OGL error...

Well, I get 8-10FPS on D11 regularly, with 150 dwarves and a lot of fluids.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Anyone can explain why this happened?

When my active window is not DF (posting on forums for example), my FPS is around 50 to 80? Just switching over to DF, it shows that, but then drops to 10.

Mine's just a starter fortress, so there isn't much stuff around.... But there's a bunch of snake/lizardmen in my river (which is being silly and having 1, 2/7 water cause it's falling into the chasm). Dammed it up with dtil so that it'll fill.

You have something horrible going on. Try updating your graphics drivers and/or trying one of the 40d## series.

it's likely to be one of the lower specified computers around that play DF.
Doubtful.  People play on some pretty crappy comps around here.

well, you're probably right, but in a reverse boast I'm going to say that I'm using a P4 processor that's very prone to overheating which halves its speed after about 30 minutes.

you mind posting your specs? windows>run

type in "dxdiag" then the button "save all information" to save the information in a text document. Then copy and paste the info from there.

if your savvy check your heatsink for dust and an appropiate amount of heatsink compound.  your P4 shouldn't be overheating and cutting speed like that.  the fan on your HFS maybe bad too, and those ahould only run $5.00 to replace.

That's what DF needs, The gutbuster brigade.  Screw that elf and his cat. Thibbledorf Pwent is the real hero.

Hmm, for me, I dled the newest DFG (40d16), and the speed was ok. About 70 to 80.
